Rybak nominee would be first woman to lead Minneapolis police department

Mayor R.T. Rybak has nominated Janee Harteau to be Minneapolis' next Chief of Police. The 25-year veteran of the department would be the city's first female police chief. Harteau is currently an assistant to Chief Tim Dolan, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Minneapolis Police Chief calling it quits

Chief Tim Dolan has notified Mayor R.T. Rybak that he will not seek a third term. His current contract expires in January of 2013. Dolan has been the city's Police Chief since 2006 and joined the department in 1983 after working as a deputy for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department.

Occupy Minnesota protesters will meet with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak Tuesday to discuss the weekend arrests of a dozen demonstrators. The Occupy movement alleges police brutality. Forty members marched to Rybak's office to demand the meeting. Police Chief Tim Dolan has acknowledged cops may have gone too far in knocking a camera off the shoulder of a news photographer.

When Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak delivers his budget address Wednesday many will be focused on what he has to say about the fire department. The fire chief and union leader have called for hiring additional firefighters to improve safety and response times. But at least one city council member says the department is doing fine as is and rhetoric to the contrary is only frightening residents.
