Salvation Army rings in new year short of fundraising goal

The Star Tribune reports that the Twin Cities Salvation Army is roughly $700,000 short of its target goal of $9.8 million, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The Salvation Army is still seeking online donations.

The charity made a public plea on New Year's Eve for last-minute donations to help fund its work in 2013. The shortfall hits the Salvation Army as it continues to see strong demand for its services, which include utility assistance, hot meals, food shelf visits and housing.
