Sam Adams toasts Big Papi's career with a new beer

Boston brewer to honor "Big Papi" with his own beer.

Samuel Adams is honoring former Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz with a limited release beer that will be called "Big Hapi."

Of course the beer is named after Ortiz's popular nickname "Big Papi."

He retired following a 19-year Major League career. Ortiz spent his first six years with the Twins, before spending the remainder of it with the Red Sox.

The Boston-based brewery is specifically issuing 541 bottles of "Big Hapi" on Friday to honor each home run that Ortiz hit during his 19-year Major League career.

"We're thrilled to honor our hometown baseball hero by doing what we do best, brewing beer, and giving craft beer and baseball fans a commemorative brew to honor an extraordinary legend," said Samuel Adams Founder Jim Koch in a press release.

The company says Ortiz will get one of the bottles himself – No. 34 to be exact.

"Big Hapi" is described as a mango-infused double-IPA and has an 8% ABV. The company says it "boasts strong citrus and tropical notes, a piney backbone and resinous flavor."

It will be for sale one day only and all of the proceeds from the sales will go toward the David Ortiz Children's Fund.
