Saturday stabbing in Alexandria leaves one man dead, another in police custody

Police responding to a 911 call in Alexandria Saturday afternoon arrived at the scene to find one man dead of stab wounds to the chest.

The Alexandria Echo Press that the county medical examiner was called to the scene by 1:20 p.m. to confirm the death of Phillip Alstadt, 28, of Alexandria. Alstadt knew his attacker, according to police reports, the paper reports.

The Associated Press confirms that the suspect is from Alexandria as well.

The Echo Press says the suspect fled on foot, but was arrested at gunpoint within 40 minutes of the emergency call.

The Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota BCA is conducting an investigation. The Minnesota BCA Mobile Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation, according to the AP.
