Scheels in Eden Prairie expands, adds a Ferris wheel and massive aquarium
The Scheels store at Eden Prairie Center is about to get a lot more fun.
The sporting goods department store is already set up in the mall, but it announced last week it will be moving into a larger space where Sears used to be.
And since the store has 240,000 square feet of space to fill, it's adding some fun attractions like a 65-foot indoor Ferris wheel and a 16,000 gallon aquarium.
It's being modeled after some other larger destination stores across the U.S. To get an idea of what it might look like, check out this aquarium at a Scheels store in Kansas.
Pretty cool, huh?
The new store will feature specialty shops for things like hunting, fishing golfing, biking, skiing and more. The hunting and guns shops will also have the largest selection of guns in the state.
There are hands-on activities too. Scheels will have shooting galleries as well as laser shot shooting simulators. Visitors can also test their skills with golf, soccer, hockey, baseball, football and basketball simulators.
Of course, there will also be a wildlife mountain to look at, as well as a fudge shop for your sugar fix. The shop will be called Ginna's Cafe and it will also serve soups, sandwiches, coffee and other specialty drinks.
It'll be a while before you can visit this new destination Scheels store, though. It's set to open in the fall of 2019. In the meantime, the Eden Prairie location will operate in its current space.
The very first Scheels store opened in Sabin, Minnesota in 1902. Over the years, it's expanded dramatically. Now there are 27 stores across the U.S. Five of those are in Minnesota.
