School bus with kids on board swerves down road after driver's medical incident

A scary situation in central Minnesota Wednesday afternoon, as a school bus with 11 kids on board plows forward seemingly out of control along a highway.

An Aitkin County sheriff's deputy noticed the bus traveling slowly at about 3:49 p.m., weaving in and out of its lane just outside Malmo– so the deputy followed, KSTP reports.

Shortly after, the bus went into a ditch then got back on the road and stopped. When the deputy approached it drove off again, according to WCCO.

A student on the bus called 911 and told operators the bus driver looked like he was having a health issue.

About 15 minutes after the ordeal began, state troopers put down stop sticks, FOX 9 reports, which brought the vehicle to a halt in a ditch.

The driver was taken to the hospital.
