The father of a Minnesota student who has been missing for a week joined searchers combing an area near the Mississippi River in Winona on Saturday.

Winona police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension have been appealing for information on the whereabouts of 19-year-old Chukwudi Benjamin Onyeaghala, who goes by Ben.

The Winona State University student, who is originally from White Bear Lake, was last seen just before midnight on Friday, Oct. 7, near 6th and Huff in Winona.

KAAL reports that his father was among those searching an area of Winona around a dock, where surveillance video obtained by police showed a black man walking around by the Mississippi River.

According to police, a boat owner reported some unusual circumstances that Friday night, saying a black man climbed onto his boat and went inside, closing the door behind him. A short while later the owner heard a splash, but went home.

The next day he found blood spots on his boat, the TV station reports.

The Winona Daily News reports that Onyeaghala does not have a vehicle registered to him and his phone is either turned off or the battery is dead.

Onyeaghala is described as 5' 7", 130lbs, with brown eyes, black hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing all black clothing, including a black backpack.

Anyone with information on Onyeaghala's whereabouts is urged to contact Winona PD at 507-457-6492 or dial 911.
