Recognize the model on the cover?
That's 19-year-old Halima Aden – a St. Cloud woman who made history last year when she became the first to compete in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant wearing a hijab and burkini.
From there, she went to the runway to model Kanye's Yeezy Season 5 line. And now, she's on the June cover of Vogue Arabia.
"That surreal & dreamlike feeling the moment you see yourself on the cover of @VogueArabia cannot be explained!," Aden says in an Instagram post. "I'm beyond appreciative for the opportunity to grace the June cover!"
This comes a few months after the magazine first featured Aden. Then, the teen said she never thought she'd become a model – mostly because she hasn't seen a lot of hijab-wearing women putting themselves out there.
Now she's setting out to be the role model she never had.
In a video on the Vogue website, Aden explains that, "every little girl deserves to see a role model that's dressed like her, resembles her, or even has the same characteristics as her."
But while she wants people to see the hijab, she wants people to know "I’m also a million other things."
"I want us to get to a place where we just see women," Aden told Vogue.
