The driver of the semi truck that nearly hit a girl as she was waiting for her school bus has turned himself in to authorities, the Minnesota State Patrol announced Tuesday night.
No other details about the driver were immediately released.
Earlier in the day, the patrol had distributed this video and asked for the public's help in finding the driver.
The incident happened on May 30, on Highway 23 near Paynesville and New London, the State Patrol says. The bus came to a stop on the two-lane highway to pick up the student, its notification lights flashing and stop arm down. The student can be seen waiting near a driveway as the bus approaches.
Without warning, a large semitruck plows through the righthand shoulder – directly between the school bus and the waiting student – nearly hitting the girl before continuing down the road at a high speed.
The State Patrol says a number of witnesses called 911, but could not provide enough information for authorities to locate the semi.
