Crews work to recover semitrailer from pond

A semitrailer on eastbound I-94 veered off the road and onto a pond, where it broke through the thin ice and sank. The driver got safely to shore with minor injuries.

A Target company semitrailer reportedly veered off eastbound I-94 on Friday morning and crashed into a pond, where it broke through the thin ice and sank in about 7 feet of water.

The State Patrol's report says the truck crossed the median and westbound lanes of traffic before crashing into the pond.

The driver apparently was able to crawl out of the cab and get to shore with minor injuries.

Crews are now working to extract the truck from the pond. KSTP has helicopter coverage of the scene:

Crews still working on restoring power in Itasca County

It's been nearly a week since the first of two windstorms swept through northern Minnesota. Crews working to restore power in the area of Grand Rapids and Deer River say there were still 1,000 customers without electricity Sunday, down from 14,000 at the peak of the outage.

Crews still working to restore power on Iron Range

April showers turned into 11 inches of heavy, wet, power-line-breaking snow and folks on the Iron Range are still trying to get the electricity back on. 14,000 customers lost service in the Grand Rapids and Mountain Iron service areas. At least the roads are passable enough to allow schools to reopen.
