Koenen won the special election with 54 percent of the vote Tuesday. He beat out GOP candidate Gregg Kulberg and Independent candidate Leon Greenslit. DFL Senator Gary Kubly died last month after a long battle with ALS.

Edina Republican Geoff Michel says he won't seek re-election to his seat. He says 'ten years feels just about right,' referring to his tenure in the legislature. Michel's announcement comes just after he was considered for the Senate Majority seat following Amy Koch's resignation from the post.
