Separate shootings kill 2 in Twin Cities; Benton County death being investigated

Author:

Police were investigating fatal shootings in both Minneapolis and St. Paul Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, detectives are looking into the death of a woman in a central Minnesota mobile home park, which may have also involved gunfire.

St. Paul

The Pioneer Press reports a man was shot to death in the same alley in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood where a woman was killed in a gang-related shooting three years ago.

Police tell the newspaper they responded to reports that several shots were fired behind the 900 block of Reaney Ave., where a crowd had gathered at a vigil for Naressa Turner, who was killed there in 2012.

The Pioneer Press says about an hour and a half later and three miles northeast there were again reports of numerous shots fired. Investigators were working to determine whether the incidents were related.

Minneapolis

Police say an altercation between two men on Minneapolis' north side escalated to gunfire, with one man shooting the other and fleeing on foot. Police say the men knew each other before their fight. No one is in custody and police are asking the public to share any information about the shooting.

It occurred at about 6:30 p.m. near 30th and Emerson Avenues.

The Star Tribune reports parishoners headed to a 7 p.m. Bible study class at the nearby New Bethel Baptist Church were unable to reach the buildingbecause investigators had taped off the crime scene.

Benton County

The sheriff's office received a call Wednesday afternoon that a woman in a mobile home park in Rice needed medical treatment for a gunshot wound, WJON reports.

Sheriff Troy Heck told the St. Cloud Times investigators are working to determine the cause of the woman's death but said there is no threat to the public.

A neighbor told the Times she'd heard no gunshots. She also said she'd spoken earlier in the day to the woman who died and she"was totally fine."
