September home sales: U.S. down two percent, Minnesota up 13 percent

Autumn's arrival did not cool off Minnesota's housing market.

As the Star Tribune reports, September numbers from the Minnesota Association of Realtors show a 13 percent increase in home sales statewide compared to a year ago.

Here's the report from the Realtors, which also shows a double-digit increase in the median sale price and a 14 percent hike in new listings.

Minnesota's numbers are in contrast to the National Association of Realtors' report, which found that across the country closings were down nearly two percent. But the Star Tribune calls that decline smaller than expected.

Residential construction is also on the rise, at least in central Minnesota. The St. Cloud Times reports that in the six-city St. Cloud metro area, the value of new construction is on pace to surpass $50 million this year. That would be a first since 2008, according to the Times.
