Spring Lake Park police arrested a woman for animal cruelty after they say she threw three-week-old puppies at her boyfriend. Police say she threw the dogs out of a vehicle onto a parking lot pavement. They were uninjured. Police arrested the boyfriend, too, for allegedly breaking the woman's nose.

Duluth activists arrested in high-security area in Tennessee nuclear plant

Two activists from Duluth and an 82-year-old nun were arrested Wednesday and charged with federal trespassing after they allegedly breached a high-security area in a Tennessee complex that stores and processes uranium. A government official said the protesters, who dubbed themselves Transform Now Plowshares, "put themselves at a high risk of losing their life" in the incident.

Police say family-owned jewelry stores from Alexandria to Faribault have been hit by a group of thieves who use a smash-and-grab technique. Breaking glass cases with crowbars and sweeping jewels into trash bags, the robbers are in and out in about a minute.

Man arrested after shots fired at deputy in Northfield

Law enforcement officials say that a manhunt has resulted in the arrest of a suspect who they believe robbed an America’s Best Value Inn and Suites early Monday morning and shot at a Rice County deputy. A woman suspected of being an accomplice was arrested earlier. A number of agencies were involved in the search for the man.
