For the second straight day, afternoon storms produced funnel clouds and tornado warnings in western Minnesota Friday.
The National Weather Service posted a tornado warning for Otter Tail County that was allowed to expire at 6 p.m. Spotters had reported a funnel cloud near the town of Ottertail.
Earlier tornado warnings were in effect in Clay and Wilkin Counties. A funnel cloud was spotted north of Breckenridge and the view from a farm near Comstock (right) was sent to the Fargo Forum.
Thunderstorms, possibly severe ones were in the forecast through the evening for an area from Fargo through Bemidji to the Iron Range.
Christiane McMahon tweeted a photo of hail near Dent to WDAY:
The Associated Press reports law enforcement agencies confirmed that tornadoes touched down in three west central Minnesota counties – Swift, Pope, and Chippewa – on Thursday evening. The only damage reported was downed tree branches and siding ripped off a building near Benson, the AP says.
In the Twin Cities, Thursday's record-setting rains were followed by sunshine on Friday. But forecasters estimate the rain that fell earlier in the week is enough to keep some rivers rising through Thursday.
