Tornadoes hit Wisconsin; 1 killed, dozens injured

A mobile home park near Chetek was flattened.

Tornadoes hit west central Wisconsin on Tuesday evening, flattening a mobile home park near the town of Chetek and leaving a path of debris in Barron County.

Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald tells WQOW one person was killed by the storm and at least 25 others were injured in the area between Chetek and Cameron, Wisconsin. Fitzgerald said emergency crews were searching the area for any other victims.

According to The Weather Channel, storm spotters told the National Weather Service walls had collapsed on people in a Barron County mobile home community known as Prairie Lakes Estates.

WCCO streamed aerial footage showing damage at the park near Chetek.

The Barron County tornado reportedly touched down a little after 5:30. KSTP says spotters told the Weather Service another one touched down in Rusk County near the town of Bruce just past 6 p.m.

Hail in Minnesota

Before the storms brought tornadoes to Wisconsin, there was hail in Minnesota. It marked the second bout of severe storms this week.

There were reports of hail the size of a quarter or larger in the south Twin Cities metro, as well as in the Mankato area. Reports of 2-inch hail came from northwest of Faribault.

Watch for flooding

Tuesday's rains on top of a soaking the night before, led the Weather Service to call two flash flood watches in southeastern Minnesota. Both continue until 7 a.m. and they cover a dozen counties.

Forecasters say 2-5 inches of rain fell on the area Monday night, while Tuesday's storms brought another 1-3 inches.
