The Star Tribune reports the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and the Canterbury Park horse-racing track have reached a 10-year agreement. The deal calls for the tribe, which operates the nearby Mystic Lake Casino, to contribute tens of millions of dollars to Canterbury purses. In exchange, owners of the racetrack in Shakopee agree to end their pursuit to add slot machines and help block efforts to expand gambling in the Twin Cities metro area.

Manufacturing company in Faribault moving to Shakopee

After 15 years in Rice County, Trystar Inc. is planning to build a new $15 million plant in Shakopee. Trystar specializes in products that provide temporary power at construction sites and major sporting events. The Northfield News reports the manufacturing company has doubled in size each of the last three years. Trystar's new facility will be three times the size of its current 60,000 square foot space. The current lease keeps the company in Faribault through at least 2015.

4 utility workers injured at Shakopee prison

Four people were sent to the hospital with unknown injuries after an electrical mishap at the women's Correctional Facility in Shakopee. Neighbors told KARE 11 they heard a loud explosion before the area lost power, including the prison. No prison staff or inmates were injured.

A woman was captured on surveillance video stealing an 8-week-old Persian kitten Saturday night from a Petland store in Shakopee. But the kitten was returned, left in a cardboard box behind the store on Tuesday morning. Police continue to search for the woman.

Sears to close Kmart Distribution Center in Shakopee

Sears has confirmed that it will close its Kmart Distribution Center in Shakopee at the beginning of 2013. A company spokeswoman said that the 130 workers affected by the shut down were informed last week that they were losing their jobs. Some of the workers have reportedly been with the distribution center since it opened in 1981.
