Sheriff: Liquor store worker and robber wrestled for control of the gun

At one point, he set down his gun and a store employee tried to take it away.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that happened Monday at a liquor store just southwest of the Twin Cities.

Carver County officials say Joseph Scot Lacek went to Hi-Five Liquors in the city of Victoria around 1 p.m. He reportedly walked up to an employee there, took out a handgun and demanded money.

At one point, Lacek set his gun down and went to put on a glove, the sheriff's office reports.

In that moment, the store employee tried to grab the gun from the robber. The two struggled for a bit, but Lacek ultimately regained control of his weapon.

According to the news release, the suspect pointed the gun at the store worker, and the employee fled the building.

Officials say when Lacek left the store, the employee then chased him until the suspect got into a vehicle.

A witness in the area saw some of the commotion and took a picture of Lacek leaving. That information was passed on to law enforcement who found Lacek at his Chanhassen home.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked into Carver County Jail.

According to the jail's inmate roster, Lacek is being charged with aggravated robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident.
