The woman who was shot by police in Robbinsdale Thursday night while allegedly armed with a knife has been charged with second-degree assault.

Tania Marnique Harris, 18, of Robbinsdale, was shot by a police officer as she chased another woman while wielding a large knife, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said in a press release Friday.

According to the complaint, officers were called to an apartment building at 3755 Hubbard Avenue amid reports that Harris had been arguing with another woman for most of Thursday.

As they spoke with the other woman and Harris' mother outside the building, Harris allegedly "burst through the front door" and began chasing the woman while holding a large knife.

The other woman then began running towards the officers, who told Harris to drop the knife, and when she didn't, one of the officers shot her twice.

Harris's family disputes the police's claims however, telling WCCO she was unarmed. KARE 11 reports said that following the shooting, Harris was in stable condition at the hospital.

The Star Tribune spoke with two teenagers nearby who saw the aftermath of the shooting.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said it is continuing to investigate the incident. Bail for Harris has been set at $50,000.
