Sisters charged in connection with Forest Lake kidnapping hoax

Three of four sisters accused of staging a kidnapping hoax outside a Walmart store in Forest Lake have been charged in connection with the incident, WCCO-TV reports.

The charges stem from an incident early last month, when witnesses said they saw a woman climbing out of a car trunk -- and another woman jumping out of the car and forcing her back in the trunk before speeding away. The incident was also captured on surveillance video.

The incident was initially treated as a kidnapping until the girls' mother reportedly called police and told them the it was a hoax.

Three of the sisters have been charged with misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct and careless driving. The fourth sister, a juvenile, will face similar charges through the county attorney, WCCO said.

The Forest Lake Police Department said the cost of investigation totaled more than $7,000.

The identities of the three sisters was not released to the public, because authorities don't want the juvenile girl in the case to be identified by her relationship to the three women.
