Sixth district congressional race starts shaping up

There are a couple of DFL candidates who have joined the race to succeed Rep. Michele Bachmann, in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District.

The St. Cloud Times reports that Jim Read, a political science professor at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University announced Tuesday that he will run for Congress in the 6th District. He joins Judy Adams of Circle Pines in the DFL field.

The Stillwater Gazette reported last week that Adams was joining the race. They are the only two Democrats in the field thus far, though Sartell Mayor Joe Perske is said to be considering a run.

Bachmann, a Republican, has announced that she is not seeking re-election to the seat, in the conservative leaning district. It has been highly sought by many in the Republican party including 2010 Gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, former state Rep. Phil Krinkie, St. Cloud state Sen. John Pederson and Anoka County Board chair Rhonda Sivarajah.

The other announced candidates, all Republicans, had until Tuesday to submit their quarterly campaign reports.
