Ski slope, ice rink, rides – MoA owners unveil plan for world's biggest mall

It was fun being near the top while it lasted.

Minnesota's iconic Mall of America could soon be bumped down the list of largest shopping malls – at the hands of its owners.

Triple Five, which owns the Mall of America and West Edmonton Mall (the largest in North America), announced plans to build a ginormous destination mall in Miami that would eclipse ... well, everything. If the plans go through as-is, it would be the largest mall in the entire world, Local 10 in Florida reports.

In all, the complex (called American Dream) would take up 200 acres.

Among its amenities:

  • A 300,000-square-foot amusement park.
  • A 225,000-square-foot water park.
  • An indoor snow slope for skiing, tubing and snowboarding.
  • Miniature golf.
  • An aquarium.
  • 400+ stores and restaurants.

But the real slap in the face to us Minnesotans? This Miami mall would include an NHL-sized ice rink.

Here's the proposed mall's website, if you want to read more.

The Miami Herald says it could cost $4 billion to build and employ 25,000 people. Deals for the land, located in the Miami suburbs and adjacent to two busy highways, are already in the works, the paper reports.
