Fallen Cold Spring-Richmond Police Officer Tom Decker was remembered Wednesday on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. He was killed in the line of duty last year.

The St. Cloud Times reports that several of Decker’s colleagues in the police department joined his family at the 32nd Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service. President Barack Obama delivered the keynote address.

The event honored 143 officers from around the nation killed in the line of duty.

“We are grateful to them and we are grateful to you,” Obama told the crowd. After his speech, Obama greeted officers’ families, including Decker’s widow Alicia and his mother Rosella.

Officer Decker was shot and killed Nov. 29 in downtown Cold Spring. A person of interest in the case killed himself. The investigation remains open.
