Update: Small plane crashes into Mississippi River; reports say at least 1 is dead

The plane landed in the Mississippi River.

At least one person is dead following a plane crash that happened Friday evening near the city of Ramsey.

The Pioneer Press and Kare 11 say a woman was killed after it crashed into the Mississippi River around 5:30 p.m.

According to KSTP, the Federal Aviation Authority originally told the Anoka County Sheriff's Office that at least three people were in the plane.

See below for the original story from Friday evening.

'An investigation's underway in Anoka County after a small plane crashed into the Mississippi River Friday evening.

There were at least three people aboard the Cessna that went down near the city of Ramsey and a witness told KSTP there did not appear to be any survivors.

LeRoy Kesler told the station he saw the plane hit a power line and lose a wing before it crashed into the river with a bright flash a little after 5:30.

WCCO reports three people died in the crash, although there was not yet any official word from the Anoka County Sheriff's office.

Aerial video shows downed power lines and KSTP says Connexus Energy confirmed more than 500 customers had lost power.

The sheriff's office had set up a command center in Anoka, near the accident scene the Pioneer Press reports
