The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is talking with Mall of America officials and developers about investing in a luxury hotel as part of the mall's massive expansion plans, MPR reports.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, which runs the Mystic Lake and Little Six casinos near Shakopee, also has a hotel at Mystic Lake with nearly 600 rooms.

Mall of America officials are considering a 330-room hotel as part of their plans to dramatically increase the size of the massive Bloomington tourist attraction.

The $1.5 billion Phase II plan would add 5.6 million square feet to the state's biggest tourist draw, and include an NHL-sized skating rink, new restaurants and nightlife options, a waterpark, a performing arts center, office tower, hundreds of stores, and 8,000 new parking spaces. Here's more info about the plan.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is one of a number of potential investors the mall's management has approached, Mall of America spokesman Dan Jasper told MPR.

Jasper told MPR the mall was not pursuing a casino for the mall. State and local ordinances would not allow one, he noted.
