Get ready: Winter storm warning says snow arrives at midnight

Snow moved across southern Minnesota on Saturday, but the main event may be targeting the Metro area between overnight Sunday into early Monday morning.

The National Weather Service on Saturday night issued a winter storm watch for virtually the whole Twin Cities metro area and the eastern third of Minnesota, along with parts of western Wisconsin.

According to the weather service, between 4-7 inches of snow can be expected for the region from late Sunday night into Monday morning.

The storm threatens to have a major impact on the Monday morning commute, as the snow is expected to begin between 2 and 6 a.m.

Saturday afternoon's snow created a tough afternoon on the roads in the Twin Cities, according to WCCO. A crash involving nearly a dozen vehicles was reported along Interstate 35 in Lakeville on Saturday. Several other crashes were reported across the southern metro area.

WCCO also reports another significant accident was reported along Interstate 94 and 101st Avenue in Maple Grove, where several emergency vehicles responded.

If we can get through the weekend, the a warmup is expected to arrive next week.

KARE 11 reports high temperatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday could push 40 degrees.
