Snow in April? Twin Ports could see 6 inches

A storm system making its way to northeast Minnesota could drop up to a half foot of snow in Duluth beginning Friday night. The National Weather Service says areas near Lake Superior will see the highest snow totals.

A Winter Weather advisory is in effect for Duluth, Superior, Two Harbors, Cloquet and most of Northwestern Wisconsin from 8 p.m. Friday to Saturday afternoon.

WDIO reports the accumulation will begin as a wintry mix and change to snow later this evening. They predict 3-5 inches for the Twin Ports and up to 6 inches north of Duluth.

The Duluth News Tribune says temperatures will near 32 degrees, making snow heavy and wet.

While April seems late in the season for snow, the Minnesota Climatology Office says the latest measurable snowfall happened on June 4, 1935, when 1.5 inches of snow fell in Mizpah, Minn. in Koochiching County.
