Kyle Fletcher, the son of former Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, died as the result of a drug overdose, a medical examiner has ruled.

Fletcher, a musician who was living in Los Angeles with his Minnesotan fiancee, died on May 16, five days after going into cardiac arrest on his 26th birthday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed on Friday that his death was caused by "the effects of multiple drugs," following an autopsy.

The Pioneer Press reports that these drugs are thought to have been methamphetamine and cocaine, traces of which were found in his body.

The newspaper notes that Fletcher's fiancee found him collapsed in his apartment on May 11 and attempted CPR, with hospital staff later able to restore his pulse. He failed to improve however and was taken off life support.

It had been previously reported that Fletcher had struggled with drugs in his teens and was once arrested for possession on the orders of his father, but following his death his sister, Kelsey Adams, said he had been clean for the past five years.

The heart attack "wasn’t something we expected at this time because he had been clean for several years," Adams told the Star Tribune. "But he had that personality to live loud and burn out rather than fade away."

Fletcher’s father served as Ramsey County sheriff for 16 years before losing re-election in 2010. He retired as a St. Paul police commander in 2013, and now serves on the Vadnais Heights City Council, the city’s website notes. He’s currently working as a counter-terrorism instructor.

A KickStarter campaign has been launched to raise $20,000 to fund a larger-scale release of Fletcher's last album, "Tumbleweed." It has raised just over $3,000 so far, with a fundraiser to be held at The Cabooze in Minneapolis on July 1.
