Southdale debuts new outdoor ice rink
Strap on the skates – Southdale Center has a new winter attraction. The Edina mall debuted its first ever Holiday Ice Skating Rink Saturday.
The outdoor rink is chilled, according to Southdale's website. That means skaters can hit the ice even when temperatures are well above freezing, as they were opening day. The Star Tribune says it was the first outdoor rink to open in the Twin Cities metro area.
Visitors can take a cocoa break and warm up in the AMC rotunda. There will even be free food on weekends.
Southdale says the rink is free of charge and will be open November 14 - January 3.
More rinks opening soon
Wells Fargo WinterSkate Rink will open November 21 in St. Paul.
The Depot in downtown Minneapolis will open November 27.
Many city rinks open in December, weather permitting. Check the status of ice rinks on the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation or the City of St. Paul website.
