A southern Minnesota farmer took his girlfriend on a plane ride she will never forget. KARE 11 talked with the mother of Chelsea Nowak, who's been in a relationship with 24-year-old Tyler Winger for nearly eight years.

A southern Minnesota farmer took his girlfriend on a plane ride she will never forget.

KARE 11 talked with the mother of Chelsea Nowak, who's been in a relationship with 24-year-old Tyler Winger for nearly eight years.

Last week, Winger popped the question by plowing a message into the field for Nowak to see: "Marry me, will you?"

The couple is planning an August wedding, according to KARE 11.

It's only mid-September, but the U.S. Department of Agriculture says 12 percent of Minnesota's corn crop is already harvested. The Pioneer Press notes that is roughly three weeks earlier than last year. The soybean harvest is also well ahead of the five-year average with 16 percent complete.

Minnesota farmers plant 3 million acres of corn in a week

Minnesota corn farmers are expected to plant a record number of acres this spring. And nearly half those acres are already planted by the end of April. It's an improvement over last year, when a soggy spring delayed planting and pushed back the whole growing season.
