Southwest LRT seeks development money to stay on track

The Southwest Corridor Light Rail is among a long list of projects eyeing part of $50 million in grant money. MPR reports the state Department of Employment and Economic Development is expected to decide which development projects will be awarded funds in the next few weeks. The 15-mile Southwest LRT route would run from downtown Minneapolis through the southwest suburbs.

It's unclear if legislators will be able to appropriate funding in this legislative session for the transportation project.

Backers of light rail in southwest suburbs fear loss of federal money

Money for a light rail transit line connecting Minneapolis and its southwest suburbs was left out of the state-funded construction projects approved by the House. Backers of the line say federal funds for the project will be forfeited if the state fails to put up $25 million toward it.

State narrows list of construction projects in running for grant money

Ninety local governments across Minnesota applied for a piece of the $47.5 million the state has in a fund for building projects. The Department of Employment and Economic Development has cut the list down and prioritized projects by geographic area. In the Twin Cities a new minor league baseball park in St. Paul tops the list.
