Spirit Airlines to offer new direct flights from MSP

Spirit Airlines is already expanding its service out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Starting in April 2013, Spirit will add non-stop flights to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Florida-based airline will also offer seasonal non-stop service to Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers between Nov. 8 through April 24, 2013. Spirit debuted in the Twin Cities market less than two months ago with daily flights to Chicago and Las Vegas.

Delta, Southwest finalize plane lease deal

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines -- the dominate carrier at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport -- will lease 88 Boeing 717 planes from Dallas-based Southwest Airlines. The aircraft will be transferred starting next year, with 16 scheduled to arrive next year. Another 36 will come in 2014 and the rest will be delivered in 2015.

Fares out of MSP expected to rise

There's no airfare relief in sight for passengers flying out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the Star Tribune reports. Tickets for flights out of the Delta-dominated hub are likely to rise 5.4 percent to 7.9 percent next year, according to the 2013 travel-price forecast released Monday by Carlson Wagonlit Travel.

MSP Airport cancels flights as Hurricane Sandy churns toward East Coast

As of 4 a.m. Monday, about 40 flights had been canceled from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to East Coast destinations including Baltimore, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., WCCO reports. Hurricane Sandy's widespread effects could create 12-foot waves on Lake Superior, the AP reports. The hurricane is on a path to make landfall in New Jersey late Monday or early Tuesday.

New airline coming to Minneapolis-St. Paul

Airport officials say they will reveal the name Wednesday of a new airline locating at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The Minneapolis Airports Commission says the airline flies internationally but will fly only to domestic airports from Minneapolis.

Fewer travelers take off from MSP

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport numbers in May showed fewer people flying, the Star Tribune reports, and the newspaper suggests that firms and tourists remain cautious amid higher fuel costs and fares.
