St. Anthony cancels annual parade due to aftermath of the Philando Castile shooting

The St. Anthony VillageFest parade has been cancelled in wake of the recent shooting of Philando Castile, organizers announced in a Facebook post.

The annual parade, which was to be held on Friday, August 5, would require additional resources from the police and fire departments that are "currently stretched to their limits."

Organizers believed that by cancelling the parade, despite being a focal point of the weekend, they would be able to ensure that the remainder of the activities could continue.

"VillageFest is about celebrating the great community that we have, and while that might look different this year, we want to continue the tradition of this local and cherished celebration," the post said.

All the other activities are still scheduled to go on as planned.
