St. Paul police fatally shoot suspect after grocery robbery

St. Paul police fatally shot a man suspected in the armed robbery of a Kowalski's grocery store on Grand Avenue on Monday morning, the Pioneer Press reports.

Two officers pursued the suspect, who had brandished a handgun during the holdup and fled on foot onto Ayd Mill Road, a police spokesman told the newspaper. A stretch of Ayd Mill between Grand and Hamline Avenue was closed during the investigation.

The suspect was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died later in the morning, police said.

The suspect's name was not immediately released. He was from Brooklyn Park, the Star Tribune reports.
