St. Paul's newly renovated Palace Theatre announces first concert

The venue has been closed since 1984.

After years of renovation, downtown St. Paul's Palace Theatre is nearing completion and has its first booking.

Alt-folk singer-songwriter Regina Spektor will play the venue on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Spektor's St. Paul show is part of a spring run in North America in support of her seventh album, Remember Us To Life, featuring the single "Bleeding Heart."

Here she is performing it on Colbert earlier this year:

Owned by the city and operated by First Avenue and Jam Productions, the 2,500-capacity theater is wrapping up a $15 million renovation, according to a release. After starting as a vaudeville performance space in 1916, it was converted to a movie theater in the 1920s. It closed in 1984.

The venue overhaul included fixing a leaky roof, removing seats on the ground floor, and other structural improvements, according to the Star Tribune. Funding for the renovation came from grant money and cashed bonds.

Tickets for the 18+ show are $51 and are up for purchase on Friday, November 4 at 10 a.m. at First Ave's site.
