State Fair has safeguards in place in case of severe weather

Although there's a small chance of severe weather in the Twin Cities this weekend, officials with the Minnesota State Fair say they are prepared for severe weather in the event something happens. Fair officials tell MPR that the fairgrounds are equipped with storm shelters and tornado sirens should any emergencies pop up.

Two men stabbed at State Fair

Police say two men are hospitalized after being stabbed at the Minnesota State Fair. A portion of the fairgrounds was closed after the incident near an arcade on Dan Patch Avenue. Police said it was not a random stabbing. There were no immediate arrests.

CDC confirms swine flu case linked to Minnesota State Fair

The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that one case of swine flu has been linked to the Minnesota State Fair and two possible additional cases are pending. Minnesota Public Radio reports that in the three cases, people were either exhibiting hogs or were in the swine barn at the state fair before falling ill. The strain is different that the one that has caused 289 illnesses and one death nationwide so far this year.

Moderate risk of severe weather in Minnesota

The National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging winds are expected to develop Sunday afternoon in southwest Minnesota and move northeast. The Storm Prediction Center has put parts of east central Minnesota under a moderate risk for severe storms.
