State health officials censor their colon health ad


Minnesota health officials have censored their own billboard in Duluth, WDIO reported.

The ad is aimed at promoting colon health and shows a man's butt crack, with the message, "Cover your butt! Get a colonoscopy." The billboard was designed to "get people talking," officials say.

It did. Department spokesman Scott Smith said the state agency has received complaints, so within the last few days, they put a white box on the center of the ad.

The white box itself is an "experiment to see if it keeps the conversation going," officials say.

KARE 11 did a story about the billboards in March, when the ads were turning heads in the metro. "We don't want to cross that line, but we aren't afraid to step close to it," Laura Friedenberg, an MDH educator, told KARE.

The billboard has attracted attention in the Rochester area, too.
