A Maple Grove woman is dead following a hit and run accident on a freeway in St. Paul on Friday night.

St. Paul Police said Emily Boone, 28, climbed over an interstate wall adjacent to Interstate 35E near the Grand Avenue overpass and fell to the pavement below, KSTP reports.

Investigators believe she was crawling across the highway when she was hit by a car. WCCO said she was struck just after 9:30 p.m.

The incident backed up traffic on 35-E and I-94. Portions of I-35E were shut down as authorities investigated the accident. The Star Tribune noted that the incident occurred as a Minnesota Wild hockey game finished at the nearby Xcel Energy Center, further complicating the traffic backup.

The State Patrol is asking for the public's help in identifying the vehicle and the driver involved in the crash. Anyone who witnessed this incident or was in the area at the time of the crash is asked to contact the State Patrol at (651) 582-1500.
