City planners are mulling how to transform parking lots into the kind of dense, urban development needed to meet the city's aim of doubling the downtown population over the next decade. There are at least 140 surface parking lots scattered around downtown, some of which take up entire an entire block.
Police propose new curfew for teens in downtown Minneapolis
KARE 11 reports the Minneapolis Police Department wants to ban teens 17 and younger from Nicollet and Hennepin Avenues after 8 p.m. This is in response to mobs of young people randomly assaulting and robbing people in that section of downtown. At least six incidents have been reported since early February.
Governor takes stadium lobbying effort to Minneapolis city council
Gov. Mark Dayton met separately with city council members Sandy Colvin Roy and Kevin Reich and says both are "willing to consider their position(s)" regarding the plan for a new Vikings stadium. Right now the plan does not seem to have support from a majority of the council. Dayton says if it did, that would help the stadium bill's prospects at the Capitol.
Minneapolis council not keen on Rybak's stadium plan
Never mind the Legislature, Mayor R.T. Rybak may not be able to get his stadium proposal past Minneapolis' city council. Council members were underwhelmed by the mayor's presentation of a plan that would apply city sales tax money to a Vikings stadium once Minneapolis' convention center is paid off. A head count by the Downtown Journal finds Rybak lacks the votes to pass it right now.

Man in custody after downtown Minneapolis bank threat
A downtown Minneapolis building was evacuated Friday afternoon after a threat was made against the M & I Bank, according to witnesses at the scene, WCCO reports. Witnesses say a man entered the M & I Bank in the Gaviidae Commons in downtown Minneapolis and made threats. A man also allegedly made a threat to WCCO-TV.
