We're in the countdown to the summer capper, the Minnesota State Fair. The organizers of the event, recently named as one of the best in the nation by the Huffington Post, are looking for workers who want to rip tickets, serve food, look after parking lots, ring up sales and do any number of other jobs needed to pull off the annual Great Minnesota Get-Together.

The State Fair Employment Center has put out the call for workers who are available from Aug. 21 through Labor Day, Sept. 1. Prospective employees, who must be at least 16 year old, must be available to work every day of the event. The application process begins online.

Positions to be filled include ticket takers, ticket sellers, parking attendants, cashiers, retail sales, food service, and similar positions.

Fair-goers always look forward to Fair food, especially the new treats. The Iowa State Fair, which traditionally is held before the Minnesota event, has sometimes offered a preview of what new treats are making the on-a-stick circuit. The Des Moines Register has just previewed some concessions that Iowa fair-goers will sample during the Aug. 7-17 run. Some treats that are coming include:

Funnel cake sticks: Made with vanilla, chocolate or strawberry funnel cake batter, served on a stick and topped with icing (pictured)

Zombie Cones: Sour cherry, blueberry, grape, orange, lime or bubble gum flavors and topped with a gummy eyeball or sour worm

Jumbo toasted marshmallows on a stick: Available in vanilla bean, caramel, chocolate or maple bacon varieties
