Student raped by 2 men in her residence hall, U of M says

A University of Minnesota student is reported to have been raped by two men in her dorm room.

The U issued a crime alert Tuesday after a female student said she was sexually assaulted in the Sanford Hall residences on the East Bank campus, between 12:45 a.m. and 1:30 a.m Sunday.

According to the alert, the woman was in the hallway outside her room when she was encountered by two males who walked her back to her room.

Once inside, one of the men threatened her with a knife, before both of them sexually assaulted her.

The victim has told police she did not know the men, and a detailed description of the suspects is not available at this time.

Anyone with information should call the U of M's police department on 612-624-2677.

In March, a 20-year-old U of M student was ambushed and raped while she was clearing snow from her car in an off-campus parking lot near 8th Street and 13th Avenue SE, according to the Star Tribune.

And then last month, on April 17, a student was groped just off campus at the intersection of Huron Boulevard and Essex Street SE after she was followed for several blocks, according to this U of M crime alert.

Data for the years between 2008 and 2012 showed that the number of reported sexual assaults at the University of Minnesota rose by 31 percent.
