The Breckenridge, Minn., hospital where he is recovering has not released his condition. Authorities say he never lost consciousness.

The boy reportedly said, "I'm sorry," before shooting himself in front of algebra classmates. He attends a small K-12 school with about 110 students.

The small town is struggling to come to grips with the shocking incident, WDAY reports.

Stolen urn filled with mom's ashes recovered at Winona State

Police say a stolen urn holding a woman's ashes has been recovered at Winona State University. A student said she had left the urn -- containing her mother's ashes -- in her unlocked car last month. The Winona Daily News reports the urn was found in a backpack on campus.

Ex-teacher who had sex with student gets 5 years of probation

Former Elk River high school English teacher Matthew Ellsworth of St. Paul, who admitted to a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, has been sentenced to five years of probation. He told a judge they could not help falling in love. The girl, who has since turned 18, said, "I want everyone to know that this (prosecution) was not my choice. I was not victimized."

Berlin the polar bear recovering after surgery

Berlin, the Lake Superior Zoo's polar bear currently residing at Como Zoo, is recovering after surgery this weekend. The polar bear had been acting lethargic and vomiting before exploratory surgery at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center was performed. Berlin was moved to the Como Zoo after major flooding in the Duluth area in June.
