Government figures released this week rank Minnesota colleges based on how much money their graduates earn after leaving.

The data, from the Department of Education's "College Scorecard," lists the average earnings of students 10 years after they enroll in college, which it has compiled based on IRS stats from 2012/13.

It also highlights what percentage of students are earning more than the average high school graduate, which according to the DoE is roughly $25,000 across the U.S.

In Minnesota, the college that has the highest graduate salary is the Minneapolis for-profit Capella University, which runs most of its courses online and where six years after graduating, former students are earning $66,600 on average.

The University of St. Thomas is home to the most graduates earning above high school grads, with 81 percent of former students earning more than $25,000 six years after graduating.

On the low end, graduates of the Leech Lake Tribal College, which according to the DoE has an annual cost of $11,591 to attend, were earning less than $18,000 on average six years after graduation, with just 26 percent of students earning more than a high school grad.

Second from bottom was the Duluth Business University, with graduates earning $23,500 on average after graduating a college where it cost them $28,486 a year to attend.

The data is based on students who received financial aid to attend college, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of all students. The annual costs listed by the DoE is the "net cost" to students after they receive their financial aid.
