An armed, suicidal man was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, early Thursday morning.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, they received a call of a suicidal man at 12:09 a.m. and upon arrival at the scene near Lake Elmo Avenue and 34th Street North, deputies found a 23-year-old white male with a gun.
They spoke to him in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, before firing less-lethal ammunition at him.
At some point after this, "one deputy discharged his firearm at the subject," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
Life-saving efforts were attempted but the man was pronounced dead after being taken to Regions Hospital.
It's unclear if the incident was captured on body cam or by a police cruiser's dash cam.
The shooting is now under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which will release further updates about the incident in due course.
