Surly Brewing Co. has finalized its purchase on a site in the Prospect Park area of Minneapolis for its much-discussed "destination brewery" – bar, restaurant, beer garden and event center.

The Brooklyn Center-based brewer said the 8.3-acre site at Malcolm Avenue and Fifth Street SE, just off University Avenue, will be the new home of its $20 million operation, capable of producing 100,000 barrels of beer each year, MPR reported.

"It took us two years to find the perfect location and now we're finally ready to plant the Surly flag in the Prospect Park area of Midway," Omar Ansari, founder of Surly Brewing, said in a statement Monday, the Pioneer Press reported.

Surly did not disclose the purchase price but said it is working to secure approval for site remediation and it aims to start cleanup this fall, MinnPost reported.

To help clean up the site, Surly has been awarded more than $2 million in cleanup grants from the Metropolitan Council, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, and Hennepin County, the Business Journal reported. The company also has applied for a $500,000 Transit Oriented Development loan from Hennepin County, the publication reported.
