Surly will tap Thanks Obama beer for Inauguration Day

It's for "red and blue folks alike."

The Thanks Obama meme is now a beer.

Surly Brewing will be tapping its new Thanks Obama beer on Friday to mark Inauguration Day. The winter rye IPA features an experimental hop variety (it's called 06297), and has a complex, spicy malt character with candied grape and vanilla cream hop aromas, as well as a little honey and malt sweetness, Surly says.

The beer is for "red and blue folks alike" and to "reflect on the last eight years, look to the future, and enjoy a pint with your fellow Americans," Surly says.

But the brewery knew it would get some controversial comments about the beer's name, writing in a news release "please don’t yell at us about the name on the internet, even though we know you’re going to anyway."

Surly was right. Check out the comments on Surly's Facebook postTwitter and Instagram, which range from people saying they're done drinking Surly to being excited to read the comments about people being mad at Surly for making a Thanks Obama beer.

You can get the beer in Surly's taproom in Minneapolis starting at 11 a.m. Friday.
