One person is dead and a police officer wounded in a shooting Sunday evening in Hutchinson.

Police Chief Daniel Hatten said at a news conference the incident occurred at a residence in the 500 block of Harmony Lane, according to FOX 9.

Police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a report of a dispute at that location, when a struggle ensued between a male suspect and one of the officers, KEYC reports.

Shots were fired and the officer was wounded in the leg. Police returned fire and fatally shot the suspect, according to KEYC. Who fired the shot that injured the officer is part of the investigation, police told the Star Tribune.

The officer was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, according to Hatten.

The McLeod County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the scene. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation.
