Suspect leads authorities to body of missing Ohio woman


Authorities in Rice County on Friday found what is believed to be the body of a woman missing from Ohio.

The Faribault Daily News reported that they found the body in Warsaw Township in a wooded area south of Hwy. 60 across from Shager Park. west of Faribault.

The body has been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner for positive identification, but it is believed to be that of Chelsea E. Martinez, 24, from Columbus, Ohio. KSTP indicated that she had been reported missing on July 30.

KARE 11 reported that a suspect has been arrested and taken to the Rice County jail, with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday.

At a Friday night press conference, Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn indicated that the 39-year-old suspect led officers to the body. Dunn did not elaborate on how the suspect and Martinez met, whether the suspect had confessed to killing the woman or any details about how Martinez may have died.

The missing woman’s vehicle was found in Shager Park on Monday. Police checked its registration and found that the 1993 Toyota came up as an “attempt to locate” from Ohio.

FOX 9 reported that law enforcement officers from several agencies combed nearby trails, the park area and along the lake shore in search of the woman.
