Sweet story: Dairy Queen worker serves up act of kindness

Author:

Hopkins Dairy Queen manager Joey Prusak had no intention of becoming a social media sensation. He wasn't looking to field calls from TV news stations.

"The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak told FOX 9. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone."

But the story of the young manager's act of kindness is now spreading like hot fudge.

Here's what happened: Prusak last week noticed that a regular customer who has limited sight had dropped a $20 bill, and another customer promptly picked it up. He figured she was going to return it – but she put it in her purse. Prusak confronted the woman about it, and when she denied it, he said he wouldn't serve her.

Then he gave the man $20 of his own. “I felt like the right thing to do was to give him the money,” Prusak told WCCO. “I said, ‘You happened to drop this.’”

Other customers saw the whole thing and one wrote an email to DQ to praise Prusak's actions. A co-worker posted the message to Facebook, it landed on Reddit, and soon the story was widely shared. Among the news outlets that picked up the story were Yahoo! News and the London-based Daily Mail.

Prusak said his boss gave him a note of thanks: "He said you're the type of man that I'm proud to know," Prusak said, KARE 11 reported.
