A Wisconsin swim coach and piano teacher who drowned last week had been arrested the same day on invasion of privacy charges related to photographs of underage girls.

The Eau Claire Leader Telegram reports that deputies had seized computers, thumb drives and other electronic equipment belonging to Daniel Weggel, 32, of Eau Claire. The newspaper reports that investigators found images of nude underage girls among photos that appeared to have been captured without the girls’ knowledge.

WEAU reports that Weggel's arrest came days after a girl reported finding a cellphone in her room that was recording her, which launched the investigation. Sheriff Ron Cramer said confiscated evidence shows that Weggel hid cameras in his home, in the homes of his victims and in other places in order to secretly capture images.

“He acknowledged the fact that he was doing this, and that there was a stash of photos that would probably be incriminating for him if viewed by us,” Sheriff Cramer told the television station.

Divers recovered his body Friday in Lake Wissota. Weggel had left a suicide note that said that his body would be near a kayak in the lake, the sheriff said. The newspaper reported that Weggel had tied two cinder blocks to his legs to weigh him down.

Weggel was not a teacher but had been an assistant boy's swimming and diving coach at Eau Claire's Memorial High School since 2007. The school will provide assistance and resources for students there.
